Asthma is a type of auto-immune disorder (see allergies for more info) that affects the respiratory system. Triggers such as mold, dust or cigarette smoke cause a biophysical reaction called an asthma attack which constricts the airways making it difficult to breathe. In extreme cases, asthma attacks can be fatal.

Traditional treatments include medications such as broncho-dialators and steroidal anti-inflammatories.
